Financial Support

Financial Support

There is a wide range of help available to students to meet the costs of tuition, travel, and childcare.

Use the links at the foot of the page to identify the financial support appropriate to you.

Financial Help for students aged 19+

Financial support is available to students aged 19+ from Discretionary Support Funds (19+ Hardship Fund, the 20+ Childcare Fund, or the Loans Bursary Fund). It is designed to support students on low income levels with some of the costs of studying at college. These funds are limited, and applying for Financial Support does not guarantee assistance. When the funds are exhausted, applications will be refused.

In all instances, Students should maintain at least 90% attendance to retain their funding.

Applying to the College for Financial Assistance:

The College Funds available to support students are limited and applying for these funds does not guarantee assistance.

  • You will need to upload your financial evidence to the Learner Hub before you can complete your application

  • Please note that when funds are exhausted applications will be refused. We deal with applications on a first come first served basis.

  • If you are struggling with any part of the process of applying for assistance the Student Finance Team will be happy to help.

FINANCIAL QUALIFICATION CRITERIA

  • Student is single – yearly income of £25,000 or less
  • Student has a partner – yearly income of £35,000 or less

Hardship Support

Students aged 19+ taking adult courses (not coded IG) can apply for help with food and travel costs where they meet the financial criteria shown above, and

  • To qualify for Travel support, they have to travel more than one mile (1.6 km) from home to their college campus (Google Maps is used to determine the distance)
  • Students aged 19+ taking a Level 3 or 4 course who could take out an Advanced Learning Loan must have applied forand had approvedan Advanced Learning Loan to pay for their course before assistance can be paid

How much will students get and how?

  • Food costs paid at a standard rate of £2 per day
  • Travel costs paid at a standard rate of £5 per day for students who travel solely within the Greater Manchester area.
  • Students who travel from outside the Greater Manchester area, or who are disabled and cannot use public transport, may be eligible for a higher rate of assistance.
  • Payments will be made to students weekly in arrears

Help with Childcare Costs

Students aged 20+ taking Adult courses (not IG coded) can apply for help with their childcare costs where they meet the financial criteria shown above.

  • Childcare funds can only be used for Ofsted registered Childcare, whether the College’s own facilities or an external childcare provider. Applicants should use any Government free childcare available to help them to attend College before applying for Childcare Support funding from the College

  • Students aged 19+ taking a Level 3 or 4 course who could take out an Advanced Learning Loan must have applied for and had approved an Advanced Learning Loan to pay for their course before assistance can be paid

How much will students get and how?(Providing there is a sufficiency of funds)

  • The College will fund 75% of term-time costs only, to a maximum contribution of £55 per child per day

  • The College will pay childcare costs directly to the childcare provider rather than the student.

Students aged 19+ taking a Level 3 or 4 course who do not apply for, or have been refused, an Advanced Learning Loan will not be eligible for any Financial Support of any kind.
