Construction Multi-Skills City & Guilds Entry Level 3

  • Overview of the course

    If you’re considering a career in the construction industry, but are unsure which trade you want to specialise in, this course is for you.

    Taught by industry-experienced tutors in spacious, state-of-the-art workshops, this programme has been designed to cover the basic skills and techniques associated with plastering, bricklaying, carpentry & joinery and painting & decorating.

    You’ll get the opportunity to sample nine weeks in each trade area to help you make an informed choice about your future career. On completion you will have the option of either progressing to further study or employment.

    Engaging with employers is also an integral part of this programme – we’ll seek to ensure that you have opportunities to gain real-world experience of your chosen sector.
  • What you'll learn

    • Basic plastering, including preparing background surfaces, applying render and finishing coats
    • Basic bricklaying, including constructing half brick walls, building corners and laying blocks
    • Basic carpentry and joinery, including marking out to form halving, mortice and tenon and housing joints
    • Basic painting and decorating, including applying paint and various wall coverings to a variety of surfaces

  • How will I be assessed?

    Assessment will be undertaken by the completion of various practical tasks which will be linked to the vocational area in which you are studying.
  • Future opportunities

    After you have completed the programme, you could progress on to specialist Diplomas in: Bricklaying, Carpentry & Joinery, Plastering or Painting & Decorating.

    Following further study you could work as a:

    • A Construction Manager, earning up to £70,000 per year
    • A Carpenter, earning up to £40,000 per year.
    • A Painter & Decorator, earning up to £30,000 per year
