91ߣɫ’²õÌýcelebration of LGBT History Month kicked off in style yesterday, with students and staff signing a pledge to ensure that the College continue²õÌýto support itsÌý³¢³Òµþ°ÕÌý³¦´Ç³¾³¾³Ü²Ô¾±³Ù²â.Ìý
The pledge was part of Stonewall’s #Nobystanders campaign, which aims to stamp out instances of hate crime against LGBT (Lesbain, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender) people. Those signing the pledge promised to call out and reportÌýany forms of phobicÌýabuse.ÌýÌý
Also in attendance were representatives from Manchester Parents Group and the Sophie Lancaster Foundation, as well as Police Community Officers, who provided information on reporting hate crime and discrimination.Ìý
Manchester Parents Group was formed 31 years ago and supports the families and friends of lesbian, gays and bisexuals. The Sophie Lancaster Foundation was set up in reaction to the murder of Sophie Lancaster, and aims to end prejudice, hatred and intolerance.Ìý
The event was supported by the College’s Diversity Champions, who promote equality and diversity across College, and specialise in the areas of LGBT, Race, Age & Gender, Disability & Mental Health and Religion & Belief.Ìý
Adam Myatt, oneÌýof the College’s LGBTÌýChampions, said ‘The support we received from the staff and students was fantastic as always. We are passionate about the promotion of equality and diversity in College so we’re delighted to be celebrating LGBT History Month. We have a series of events planned, and we can’t wait for the next one!’Ìý
