Six Childcare learners competed against students from nine other colleges for the annual Greater Manchester College Group’s (GMCG) Skills Competition.
The students used their knowledge and expertise to successfully complete a series of tasks which included a skills test, a baby challenge and finally, a presentation.
Level 2 and Level 3 students Mariya Amla, Liam Ward, Kayleigh Hargreaves, Demi-Leigh Horrocks, Berivane Wallace and Unaisah Patel wowed the judges; across all the challenges, the students scored the most points, meaning 91ߣɫ were crowned overall Early Years champions.
Liam Ward, who is currently studying Childcare Level 3, said: “What a great experience. It was so nice to be able to apply what we’ve learnt in the classroom to competition conditions. To win at such an important and well-regarded event means a lot plus ‘Winner of Early Years GMCG Skills’ will look fantastic on my CV!”
Jennifer Coke, a Teacher Education Lecturer at 91ߣɫ, added: “The students worked incredibly hard to prepare for the competition and on the day, their commitment paid off.
“I was particularly impressed with the presentation element of the competition. It can be incredibly nerve-wracking to speak in front a large group of people, but all of the students were wonderful. They showed a level of maturity that will serve them well when they progress to higher education or employment. We are all so pleased that their talent has been recognised and their hard work has paid off.”
