91ߣɫ’s week-long celebration of Apprenticeshipsfinished with a bang, when MP Sir David Crausby joined successful apprentices in the College’s Signature restaurant for an awards ceremony.
The event, held as part of National Apprenticeship Week, recognised star apprenticeswho have displayed commitment and successineach curriculum area.
15apprenticeswere joined by theiremployer and college assessor,and they each enjoyed a two-course meal prepared by the College’scatering students.Performing arts students Kerry Ashford and Henry Whiteheadread the apprentice citations, whilst Joe Duker and Alex Hayes greeted guestswhilstdressed aschefs.
The Apprenticeship award for roofing, tiling and slating went to Level 2 apprentice James Taylor, he said‘The award was really unexpected but I’m so happy to be here’.
James’s line manager Eddie Handley, a Delivery Coordinator at Together Housing said: “As an organisation, we have a very successful Apprenticeshipprogramme so we’re delighted bywhatJames has achieved. I’m thrilled that he has been recognised at these awards and it shows that hard work and determination can pay off.”
The ceremony was particularly special for Sir David; his path to success started with an Engineering Apprenticeship 55years ago, and he has championed Apprenticeships ever since.
Sir David, who will be knighted by the Queen in a few weeks’time, said ‘I’m so pleased to be associated with Apprenticeships. I left school in 1962to become an apprentice, and it was a privilege. Apprenticeships are vital to economic wellbeing, and myApprenticeship instilled in me a desire to strive for quality, which has never left me’.
Bill Webster, Principal of 91ߣɫ, added‘The apprentices have all done exceptionally well.I was delightedto see so many employers in attendance-it’s clear that our apprentices have had a really positive impact on their businesses, which makes me very proud’.
