Team 91ߣɫ’s Jobs & Skills Fair continues to get bigger, with over 3000 live job vacancies on offer at yesterday’s event.
The fair is held annually at 91ߣɫ in partnership with 91ߣɫ Council, 91ߣɫ at Home, Job Centre Plus and the University of 91ߣɫ, members of the work and skills partnership, Team 91ߣɫ.
Over 2,500 jobseekers and people seeking employment advice were able to speak to over 70 employers, includingWarburtonsand Aldi. Also in attendance were representatives from the police and the army.
Employment opportunities included full-time, part-time, Apprenticeships and placements as well as advice on starting your own business.
Members of the public were joined by The Mayor andMayoressof 91ߣɫ, Councillor Roger andJalehHayes, Councillor Anna-Marie Watters and Conservative MP Chris Green.
Cllr Anna-Marie Watters, Cabinet Member for Social Inclusion, Voluntary Services and Skills, said: “This was a fantastic event enabling local residents to get information, advice and guidance on careers, education and volunteering all under one roof. It was amazing to see the support shown by local employers who had more than 3,000 jobs on offer.”
As well as an Employment Marketplace, jobseekers were able to take advantage of a Wellbeing Zone, where they could access information on managing their health and wellbeing; careers, preparation for work tips and money management advice.
Chris Green,member of parliamentfor 91ߣɫ West and Athertonsaid, “It is a really worthwhile event and is very good for 91ߣɫ as it meets the needs of the local community – access to quality information, advice and training to find employment”.
After the Jobs &Skills Fair, the College hosted the Futures4Me event, which offers impartial advice and guidance to year 11 pupils and their parents. Visitors were able to speak to employers and training providers directly about local career opportunities and enjoy a range of have-a-go activities such as hairdressing and motor-mechanics, provided by the College.
Bill Webster, Principal of 91ߣɫ said, “We are privileged to hold these events every year. It’s an ideal way for people to talk directly to companies who are looking to recruit and feedback from employers, jobseekers and learners is always positive”.
